I made Banana Q today and it brought back memories of home. Banana Q, as it is fondly called back home is an afternoon snack served with Coke. My husband pretended as if it were an "afternoon delight". Yeah, right.
So, what is Banana Q? As stated, it is an afternoon snack made of plantains deep fried in oil and sugar on a stick. After frying, dry the Qs in paper towels and let it cool. Serve with Coke and Mina (for the story).
Here is a picture of Banana Q that I found on the web. Another variation of fried plantains is the Turon, also a good afternoon snack that I am missing right now. Also good with soda or juice, it "fills the hole" as Steve points out sometimes
with 'his' cooking. Turon, aka Banana Spring Roll, consist of plantains (called 'saba') wrapped in spring roll sheets (shaped like a rectangle), and deep fried in oil and brown sugar. Aside from plantains or 'saba', you can also add jackfruit or 'langka' and it tastes delish.
